       This district was formed during the year 1995 by trifurcating trichy district covering an area of 2,895,57, sq km. Agriculture and handloom products that are famous worldwide cause the major economic status. The place is developing vitally with all ascepts of comfort and growth for the people who live. The karur district is surrounded by namakkal district in the North and Dindigul district to the south , Trichy district to the west and Erode district on the east. Therefore transportation of goods and people are made easy to the neighbouring districts.

         Karur basically one of the ancient cities in Tamilnadu, still beares the traditional outlook in people living. The place is famous for cotton industry and agriculture. During the year 1973 – 79, Excavations were conducted and that reveals interesting facts of the past and also the artifacts of early people Karur is a scared place of saivaites – (Workshippers of Lord Siva) the two well known temples are pasupathieswarar temple and sri mariamman Temple located in the city.
