This place came into existence in the year 1981 trifurcating from Tanjore district. This place Tiruvarur is the district headquarters with eminent administration and trade survives as the land of music. Wherein, it’s the birthplace for three important carnatic musicians of the state those days. Such as Sri Thiyagarajar, Muthuswamy Dikshithar and Syama sastrigal, the famous temple here is Sri Thiyagaraja temple, which is situated at the main place of Tiruvarur.

          Here, Sri Saraswathi temple is famous for the pilgrims.

          It is a scared place for the south Tamil Muslims. Wherein, you have Jambavanodi Dharga for their worship.

          The special shrine for Guru, who is one of the navagrahas and it, is famously worshipped here, as it is a great belief of Tamilians over 9 garahas (astrology).

          It is an important bird sanctuary around this place and other spots are Nagapattinam, vellankanni and the beach resorts around this districts is famously known as picnic spots.
