It is a place, which spreads over an area of about 3422 sq.km. to the north of Chennai. This district was newly formed in the year 1997 from chengalpattu district. This town speaks of early history and reveals the rule of pallavas, the Golkondas, the Mughals, the French, the Dutch and also the British. As located in the northeast of Tamilnadu, this small district is surrounded by Kancheepuram district in the south, Vellore district in the west, Bay of Bengal in the east and Andha Pradesh state in the north.
